Unst Communication Target: Personal Context Narrative

The personal context narrative we were assigned effectively demonstrates several aspects found in the UNST Communication target. The UNST Communication target is achieved through subgoals such as process, content development and synthesizing ideas. The personal context narrative assignment required us to tell a story about an experience that made us challenge or reevaluate our perspective on ourselves or the world around us. We were to do so through vivid and compelling details and description while incorporating dialogue, scenes and a sense of personal voice and sincerity. To do this, I decided to write about the first time I was called the N-word. This assignment was incredibly enlightening. Having to portray emotions in words in the attempt to make the audience feel something was extremely difficult. This aspect of the assignment connects to the UNST Communication target. The target requires a necessity of the content to show a “strong engagement with the purpose of the work, and the needs and interests of the audience.” This was achieved by not only writing a descriptive, accurate illustration of the experience, but doing so in a fashion that connects and interests the audience. …show more content…
The Communication target states the content must “incorporate feedback from others with a sense of authorial choice or responsibility.” This goal is met through the thorough peer-editing days where three of our classmates would read over and edit out personal context narrative. The process subgoal of the target entails the utilization of brainstorming, drafting, revising, editing, and proofreading. Our assignment evidently connects with this through our brainstorming technique of the braindump and through our multiple draft peer
