Nursing care should be unrestricted by culture (Joel, 2006). However, according to Mason, Gardner, Outlaw, and O’Grady (2016), health care providers’ learning to be more competent in the areas of culture is of great importance and needs more attention. As a result, organizations should establish standards of practice concerning provisions of care that is consistent with cultural expectations (Joel, 2006).
Organization can choose to establish standard of practices and assess patient’s cultural belief, values, and practices in order for these factors to be understood, respected, and considered when providing culturally competent care.
