Should foods be genetically modified? Simply, yes, foods should be genetically modified, but no more than they are currently. At this point in time, it would be impossible to "unmodify" all the foods to the extent necessary to say that they are no longer modified. However, further modification could lead to backlash from opponents that are already near if not at their breaking point, and the food that isnt modified is all they are willing to take as it is. Forcing them to take what they don't want would be difficult if not impossible and possibly be recognized as a level of inhumanity. The real problem is education and labeling of the GM products. Now, a more indepth look at the above general statements. "At this point in time, it would be impossible to "unmodify" all the foods to the extent necessary to say that they are no longer modified." As noted in Text 1 Line 4 "About 80 percent of the food on grocery-store shelves already contains at least some ingredients made from altered genes...almost any processed food...could contain GMOs, unless it has been certified organic..." With the shear amount of different foods, especially those that Westerners are most familiar with, processed, that are genetically modified or contain ingredints with genetic modification to some level, geting rid of it would be …show more content…
"Opponents of labeling say it would scare consumers away from safe foods, giving the appearence that something is wrong with them." If the issue is scaring consumers, then they need a better education and understanding of GMOs. If seeing that as a label scares them from the corner of the mind that derives fear from the unknown, let it be known. The labeling is necessary, in the logic of, the uneducated should want to learn more, the educated will make their decision unhindered by not knowing what the are
