My mind reverts back to a time in history when the rules of child- rearing was practical. Parents would set guidelines and children would follow them. It did not necessarily take an entire village to raise a child, but it did take the next door neighbor, the friend across the street, and the neighborhood store owner. Everyone was involved in the process of assuring, that the children in their neighborhood were well- mannered and trouble free.
When children got out of line, other adults could chastise them, with the permission of the parent, and later tell the parent about the incident. This resulted in children being disciplined not only by the neighbor, but by the parent as
