Unmasking Domestic Violence

Decent Essays
Every nine seconds in this country, a woman is assaulted or beaten. More than a million are victims of some sort of domestic violence each year.

On Saturday night a local event was held to help put an end to the violence.

The YWCA held its second annual masquerade ball to benefit the YWCA's domestic violence program.

The name of the event, "Unmasking Domestic Violence," reflects the serious mission behind the merrymaking of the unique formal evening.

"Don't be afraid to talk about it," said Organizer Iris Goldfeder. "I think the biggest issues is that sometimes people are in these relationships and they don't realize that they are in them because they are so used to it."

Proceeds from the event went to YWCA Domestic Violence program

In the early part of the century, traditional views on marriage were so widely held that denial of same sex attraction was the only choice for those experiencing it.
