Dear University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Dental Medicine,
I was one of the applicants who attended the December 9 interview for the UNLV School of Dental Medicine. Recently, I called the office of admission where I learned from Dawn that the admission committee will convene on or around February 14. I would like to add some statements for the admission committee to review in addition to my application.
When I interviewed with Dr. Kristin Baca, she asked about my activities since I left school when I completed my post-baccalaureate at the University of Texas at Dallas. In fact, the single word answer “yes” barely describes the depth of how I truly feel that UNLV is my top choice and as the school that best fits me. I have interviewed with 4 other dental schools, discovering their unique education model and interactions between students and faculties. Dr. Karl Kingsley stressed the importance of finding the dental school that best fits me, and after exploring other dental schools from the interview opportunities, I believe that UNLV will be the best fit. As I mentioned in my previous e-mail, I am impressed by UNLV’s integrated clinical curriculum, which complements my philosophies that the integration of knowledge across subjects creates the highest form of learning. I also mentioned my interest in UNLV’s class team system, which I believe that I can benefit from through the resources and support shared among my classmates in dental school. The class team system would also allow me to extend my resources and support to other classmates so that we can ensure our collaborative success and the formation of lifelong

“(Dental school enrollment and the number of dental schools has dropped dramatically over the last four decades, and retiring dentists outnumber the new graduates ready to fill their spots. The exact opposite is happening in dental hygiene. New programs are popping up all over the country, graduating dental hygiene students in record numbers through accelerated curriculums that take 18 months or less in some schools.”) The future of dental work is expected to be more involved with technology making it even easier and improving their practices and serve more patients “(Hygienists all over the country are becoming entrepreneurs and designing unique ways to deliver care.…

Another activity the dental club provides is practicing examining one another’s teeth on actual dental chairs, as real dentist do. The teacher tests us on how we correctly preform the steps of the procedure, by first carefully sterilizing our hands, then placing the proper gloves and eyewear, and finally inspecting the “patient” of resigns or decay. Not only did the club benefit me by attaining knowledge, it helped me interact with other students as a team, as a dentist and dental…

During this week’s assignment I found the interview of Dr. Allen Frances was very interesting. Being in the Human Services program here at SCC and wanting to become a social worker I have been told that I need to be familiar with the DSM-5. I definitely agree with him that normality is difficult to define and it has become a cultural concept rather than a medical concept. Dr. Allen Frances states that our society is already immersed in pill popping which I didn’t find surprising at all. My opinion and viewpoint towards this is I feel like sometimes people get diagnosed incorrectly but any easy solution to make someone feel better is by taking medications and switching them up if some aren’t working.…

Since a very young age, I have had an interest in, and enjoyed caring for others when they are sick or injured. During my Freshman year of high school, I began to realize that the medical field was my calling. I was not sure what area of study I wanted to pursue a career in, but I knew that I had an affinity for the sciences and the medical field. It wasn't until two years later, my Junior year, that radiography became the area of the medical field that I knew I wanted to concentrate on. I have been a cheerleader since third grade.…

I decided that the best way to continue my endeavor, was to start by choosing Dental Hygiene as my elective course. I chose Dental Hygiene primarily because I am very particular when it comes to personal hygiene. This choice derived primarily from a personal preference of the comfort of being a patient getting their teeth cleaned. I took joy in the feeling of clean, polished teeth. Throughout my Dental Hygiene course, I was enlightened by the fact that I was also comfortable from the perspective of playing the role as a Dental Hygienist.…
