"Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow," wrote, writer, Ralph Waldo Emerson. I completely agree with this statement. I believe that doing the same routine and never going out of your comfort zone will not allow you to grow as a person. You must push your limits in order to learn new things. Making mistakes is human nature, without them it's impossible to learn life lessons and change your mindset to become a better person. Lacrosse is a huge passion of mine. In seventh grade I started playing and to be honest, I was terrible at it. I practiced and played games with experienced teammates. Freshmen year I found myself practicing with Atlee's varsity team. I took the negative comments and energized my passion. I stepped out of my comfort zone. Now here I am, two years later, having learned many things along the way. I love lacrosse and it's just one example of how if you push your limits you can come out on top. Emerson's quote not only applies to the physical aspect of life, but it applies mentally too. I think making mistakes is a huge part of growing up, especially in the teenage years. When you put yourself in a situation, whether it be making new friends; talking to a crush; or even applying for a job, there will be one of two outcomes. It will either flourish into something amazing, or you might get turned down and try again next time. If you are passionate about something or someone, you need to make yourself vulnerable. I am always willing to put myself out there and see where things end up. In order to grow and try something new, you must change your mindset and the outcome may be even better than expected.
