Imagine being labeled by a number. Imagine being born with a score that would label your intelligence according to others. A stamp that would define your future. That’s an unfortunate reality when it comes to standardized test. There is a great deal of individuals who believe mandated testing is the only efficient way to assess a student’s intelligence. When the truth of the matter is, one’s intellect cannot be determined solely upon a testing score. If students don’t perform well, that questions an instructor’s credibility to direct students. Linda Darling-Hammond states, “Teaching quality has a lot to do with strong instruction that enables a wide range of students to learn” (3). Instructors hold the knowledge that students need in order to do considerably well on these exams. Everything that educators so carefully and precisely direct scholars on will define what insight they have. When it comes down to it, the educator has the power. With this power comes stress. Teachers feel “considerable pressure” when it comes to developing student’s test score, according to Tim Walker, as referenced by a survey done by Nea Today. These test have no real way of showing what one is capable of. With the amount of time we spend in school remembering and prepare material for these test, could be focused towards the dealings that could genuinely appraise one’s intuition; such as literacy levels or grammatical complexity. Educators must first analyze their students before bringing upon styles of learning that may not work to help all. What scholars takes away from the classroom will guide them when mandated test are presented to them, so it’s unfair if the teacher doesn’t put their best foot forward. Standardized test also fail to evaluate a student’s knowledge when it comes to subjects outside the normal; math, science etc. The issue is overall unfair and not an accurate acumen measure. These test should not hold the power to identify someone in the world’s light or have an effect on one’s
