The Salem witch trials took place in Salem, Massachusetts from 1692 to 1693. At the time, the Declaration of Independence had not yet been signed, therefore Massachusetts still belonged to Britain as a colony. Then her answer changed and Tituba said she listened but still felt sorry for what she did . Some say she realized no one would believe her and others believe she owned up to her mistake. Though she admitted to hurting the girls, she shouldn’t have been put in jail for ‘witchcraft’, witchcraft wasn’t and still isn’t real. The fact that Tituba ended up in jail for almost a year because she ‘took orders from a devil pig,evil dog, winged creature, etc’ is simply unbelievable. Tituba claiming to see and hear people telling her to hurt someone else could have been just a lie so people would go easy on her or she could have had a mental illness but she wasn’t a witch. This was the first of many executions at that location. After Bridget Bishop was hanged, thirteen more women and five men were hanged. One man , Giles Cory was executed by being stoned. Gallow Hills soon became known as Witch Hill from all the executions. Though many people were executed, much more people were put to trial and waited imprisoned basically their whole lives. Over 200 people were put to trial during this time period and roughly thirteen others died in prison.
