Also, as the second LLO expresses, communication is in upmost importance when becoming a successful graduate. Becoming productive in any medical field profession requires one to be an effective and literate communicator, for positive communication with patients is detrimental for success. For example, if a patient does not feel that he or she can comfortably express their concerns with a professional, more than likely that patient would no longer come to that practice and go elsewhere. The third LLO, creativity, is detrimental for any career in any field of work. Creativity is the key to providing solutions, finding answers, and to solving a plethora of daily situations. Pertaining to dentistry or orthodontics, without creativity, the solution to fixing an unusual tooth issue may never be resolved. Critical thinking, the fourth LLO, not only pertains to school work and “figuring out an answer” but ultimately, it can be internally and personally focused. If an issue arises or a pattern of repeating problems is recognized, by critically thinking about one’s own habits and beliefs, a new idea or conclusion may be reach, ultimately changing and producing a positive …show more content…
Regarding the LLO’s of citizenship and communication, each of these skills could be taught and developed by exposure and example. These skills are often learned by witnessing them firsthand, especially forms of effective and positive communication. Creativity and critical thinking could be learned by providing a “fun” real-life situation and allowing the students to creatively think of a solution and explain how they would execute that idea. The last two LLO’s, of ethical practice and inquiry would be harder to express to students, especially if they are of a younger age group. Ethically, however, a situation could be provided and the students could respond with the proper and “right” thing to do in the situation, as well. Ultimately, through the combination of all listed above, the University’s Mission is satisfied, for students will all gain a sense of productive work, enlightened living, and community involvement as a
