University Honors Appeal Essay

Decent Essays
Dear University Honors Program Appeals Committee,
I would like to thank you ahead of time for taking the time to review my appeal. I fully understand the selectiveness of the honors program (especially for CSE) as well as respect the initial honors decision based off my initial application. Unfortunately, one of the limitations of this program was the strict set of courses that members were required to follow in order to maintain their membership. Although a resolution has recently been reached to address this issue, I have had to seek resources outside of those provided by my high school. For example, I am currently enrolled in CS50x, Harvard’s Introduction to Computer Science course offered through www.edx.org. In the past, I have used websites such as www.codecademy.org in order to begin to learn the basic principles of programming. Moreover, I have done all of this in the last few years while doing the work for 6-7 honors/AP courses at the same time.
As a member of my high school’s honors program, I have experienced and fully appreciate the additional resources provided to honors students. I anticipate that this is especially true for a school as large as the University of Minnesota, where the benefits of the University Honors Program will be even greater. As for my appeal, I feel that my most recent transcript, my ability to perform better when taking more rigorous courses, as well as my extracurricular studies prove that I am a strong candidate and that I will succeed in the University Honors
