English Composition Reflection

For non-native English speakers, having to take college-level English may result in a challenge. Especially since doing compositions and writing analytically are not easy tasks. English Composition I, which is English 101, is the first English class students have to take in order to advance in their career path. In English 101, the principal objectives are to apply critical thinking, critical reading, and critical writing in order to analyze college-level texts and to start on research as I did in my last paper. Furthermore, Martha Nagel was my English 101 instructor. In her class, I had to do tough assignments. Before English Composition I, I took English 99 with her. I see logical fallacies a topic that needs to be learned because it is common to hear fallacious arguments during debates these days. After debates in class, I did not know that every student from every debate group made logical fallacies without even realizing. I was even amazed to know that even myself was using them, and that I was paying attention to fallacious arguments. Furthermore, writing a paper about which logical fallacies can someone use as an approach to win an argument was the second most difficult paper I had to write in English 101. I had to write about which fallacious arguments may people use in order to support their position on lowering the drinking age, such as the false analogy that the United States should lower its drinking age because other countries have a lower minimum legal drinking age and their alcoholism rates are supposedly lower. All in, I know that future English 101 students who take Nagel’s class will be impressed about how important is to catch a fallacy in an argument, or even, learn how to properly use them when they feel the need to support their own
