This type of writing allowed students to use their knowledge and skills in writing and discussions, as they shared their responses. RAFT stands for R = Role (who is the writer, what is the role of the writer), A= Audience (to who are you writing), F= Format (what format should the writing be in), and T=topic (what are you writing about). This strategy requested students to demonstrate comprehension by responding to open-ended questions. Students drew from the text and their personal experiences to create written journals. Journal writing allowed students to be less formal as they incorporated their own thoughts, feelings, and opinions into responses. The involvement with and relation to a story's characters, setting, and plot is acknowledged to enhance comprehension and promote a deeper understanding within the story.
