Mid-Term Essay Is there a universal "right and wrong"? There is no universal “right and wrong”. Rightness and wrongness are the two major part of the philosophy and it goes hand-on-hand because someone’s happiness may affect others sadness. Ethics try to look for pleasure without pain. “Pleasure and Pain”, gender based decision, ethical argument, and culture pays vital role in our society. Pleasure, pain, gender, ethical arguments and culture relative are the key factors of ethical philosophy. There are many actions that can be right ethically but that may not be acceptable by the law and science in our culture.

There should be certain rules and guidance over the philosophy. Such a things like rape should not be allowed in any circumstances with any cost even though it will help someone to be satisfied. Ethics does not care about the pain of victims in this case. If we calculate the amount of satisfaction on both male and female who involves in rape, the victims will get more pain than the amount of pleasure of other person. This victim can be a child, mother in postpartum period or having a menstrual cycle. Sex requires right time, support feelings, emotions, love and respect in order for both partners to get fully satisfied. Process of marriage and Funeral are different. In India, the family member before marriage tests some girls of certain culture for their virginity. This can be really disturbing to some others. I know it is illegal to have a sexual relation within the blood relation in many countries or societies. I, as a Hindu have a place to go for peace of mind and prayer called Temple. Likewise, Muslims and Christians will go to Mosque and Church respectively. Even though no culture say who should or should not go in one of those places for prayer. A culture where we grow up will automatically transfer it’s values and norms with us.
