Universal Preschool

The Case for Preschool Preschool is a child’s first experience with formal education, and it is the basis for all future learning. During preschool, children ages three and four have the opportunity to set themselves up for academic, emotional, and social success. In a high-quality preschool, students can interact in a structured manner with teachers and other groups of children, learning the fundamental aspects of schooling. Not only do they learn social skills like following instructions and listening to other peers while they speak, but children who attend preschool also acquire the pre-math and pre-literacy skills needed to achieve success in kindergarten. These skills are as important to a growing child as food and water; they are the foundation for all future learning and growth. However, because of preschool’s high cost combining with the financial challenges of many families in the United States, not all children have the opportunity to attend preschool.
