Universal precautions were created in order to prevent the spreading of any body fluids such as blood. In order to avoid any type of infection from the body fluids spreading to another individual there are protective equipment that prevents that. These items include nonlatex gloves, aprons, masks/shields, eye protection, and also disposable mouthpieces for resuscitation devices. Hand washing is also very important such as if you are dealing with patients you must wash and change gloves between each patient to avoid the spreading of infections. All contaminated surfaces must be sprayed with disinfectant. Any towels and or linens that are contaminated need to be bagged separately from other laundry.
