Title: A Universal Oblivion
Hook: In life there are plenty things to fear, spiders, clowns, being overweight, but most don’t
see a common fear nearly all the people on earth have in common, the fear of oblivion.
Introduction: The fears of the human race are mediocre and rather fickle. One moment they
fear something as trivial as gaining weight the next they fear dieting. The only constant fears
this race has are those relating to death, which are sickness, loneliness, and poverty. While they
sit and struggle with insignificant fears Augustus Waters is struggling with his fear of oblivion.
One true fear everyone has deep down.

He like many wish to never be forgotten and in many
ways oblivion is just that, forgetting. Forgetting someone is like letting their memory slip away
into the void. Letting them be erased from our world.
Body Paragraph 2 (What is it about this life and our existence that makes Augustus afraid
of losing it when he dies someday?): Life itself is one of the most beautiful things
humans experience. One person’s entire existence revolves around making or having the best
life possible. Augustus fear of oblivion roots from the fear of missing out on what could be. While
Augustus is suffering from cancer his fear is heightened due to him not knowing what lies ahead
and what doesn’t.
Body Paragraph 3 (How is this fear similar to what many people experience?): Many
people experience fear based on the need for surviving. When people are young they often
believe they are immortal and can live forever until they get hurt or sick. That’s when the fear of
death being to take root. We begin to try and avoid or prolong the inevitable of death which
