Director Kevin Reynolds’s 2002 film “The Count of Monte Cristo” give people a better understanding of how envy and ambition combine to destroy the life of an innocent person. In the movie, Reynolds illustrates that even though the character Edmond went through many difficulties, at the end of it he became a wealthy man. Life rewarded his persistence by letting him spend the rest of his life with everything that belong to him. The time Edmond spend in prison also show him how strong Mercedes love was for him. The envy of the people and Edmond’s kindness were the push for him to become the Count of Monte Cristo. My analysis will be about the message of the movie which is persevering over hardships as seen through the main characters.

He made all of those who conspired against him pay the consequences. He made solid plans that could not fail. Those who made him suffer in the past paid for it, but he didn’t let them die without letting them know who he was, and why he was back. But, the most exciting part was when Edmond took the chess king that Fernand gave him when he was taken to jail and put it in the chest of gold that Mondego stole from him. His biggest surprise was his son; Edmond never thought that he had a son with Mercedes. Then they start living together and making up the lost time. In this part of the movie life is grating Edmond that opportunity of been a dad, one of the greatest gift of life. Those who had despised him now respect him. These events are the best part of the movie since Edmond lost most of his life been treated like an animal, now life is paying him all that back. Love, money, freedom, and a great family to spend time with, what else can you ask for? Edmond had overcome the hardships of life and now he has more reasons to keep it up.
Everything that happens in life is for some reason. In my opinion, “The Count of Monte Cristo” is a movie that explains to people why things happen the way that they happen. I think that Reynolds did a great job by showing all the hardships that Edmond went through and how later on the he overcomes it. As an old saying goes, “There is no evil that lasts a hundred years and no body that resists it”.
