Introduction
The CAST website is a recent phenomenon in the educational world. This website promotes a new style of both teaching and learn called the Universal Design of Learning. It is commonly referred to, as UDL.UDL is a type of teaching that promotes learning for all students. It focuses on “minimizing barriers and maximizing learning” (About Universal Design for Learning). All students learn different and it is important to recognize this. UDL believes that the way each student learns is about as unique as his or her fingerprint. Because of this, teachers must take steps to teach their students in new and appropriate ways to accommodate for all students regardless of the way they learn. There are three essential steps to successfully

This section is the how of learning. When using action and expression in UDL teachers are trying to get the students to understand the different way to express their knowledge. This also focuses on the students’ preferences and how they prefer to complete tasks. The students take the variety of learning techniques the teacher uses and decides which one they prefer. They then take it and interpret the information and express it in their own way. It is very common that each student will interpret and then express each lesson differently and uniquely.
Engagement
The final part of the Universal Design for Learning is engagement. Engagement is the why of learning. This, I believe is the most important part of the UDL. Even if teachers are presenting information in a variety of ways, and encouraging their students to interpret and express the information is multiple ways it is useless if the students are not engaged. Engagement is making sure these students are motivated and inspired to learn. This is the teacher’s job. Teachers must keep levels of engagement high in order to have their students be successful at the end of the lesson.

Throughout the “Our Work” tab there are many links you can search and find information and suggestions supporting this theory. The one I found most interesting the website provides teachers is a way to keep students engaged during algebra. CAST recognized that the subject of algebra is difficult to teach and engage students during these lessons. With this being said algebra is a subject students must learn and master in order to graduate high school. Because of this CAST has designed interactive apps that students can use tablets in class to play. These apps teach them the basics of different lessons and provide them games to complete these concepts. These apps are free to people through iTunes. This resource is something I could see myself using as a future teacher. I believe it will be helpful for algebra lessons for many reasons. First, the apps will be fun. They reach the students at an educational level, while playing a game. They will want to win the game and it will push them to achieve. Second, it is helpful that the games are created by an education organization. It provides a level of comfort knowing that professionals created it and it will be appropriate for children.
Theorists
I believe that HDL can support Bloom’s Taxonomy and Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences. Bloom’s theory talks about the hierarchy of learning. The when the student has the deepest understanding of the topic they will be able to produce new

Progressivism gives students the skills needed to learn and think on their own. This philosophy insists that I teach students skills and strategies to become efficient. I also think Multiple Intelligences should guide instruction. Multiple intelligences identifies which learning style best supports a student’s learning. We all learn in different ways, and that is especially true in a special education classroom.…

Philosophy of Early Childhood Education There is a core belief behind every teacher of why they do the things they do and know what best works for their students to learn and be successful. One’s belief can be based on the theorists or from their own experiences. Teaching isn’t an easy job it can be overwhelming but at the same time rewarding and ever- changing. The importance of having a philosophy is to remain true to your beliefs when days get challenging and to refocus on why you began teaching in the first place. Teaching with purpose is essential in order for students and the teacher to be excited and rejuvenated to learn.…

Taylor says it makes his life easier because Google Classroom can grade papers automatically. It can allows allow teachers to check up on their students and it also allows students to turn in their assignment online rather than them forgetting to turn in their assignments. Therefore, when teachers are planning their instruction they should examine their students’ needs and levels and include the key parts of a lesson plan, such as standards, objectives, strategies, material, and assessments. Not to mention, teachers need to explain the importance of each part of the lesson plan to the students. Furthermore, lesson plans are great ways to structure what is being taught, and use to aid students where they are weak. However, as Vacca, Vacca, and Mraz (2014) stated my lesson plans are always changing. I plan or alter what I am teaching based on what my students have shown that they have mastered or not mastered.…

This form of assessment is focused on teachers noticing, recognising and responding. The noticing aspect of Interactive Formative Assessment (IFA) involves teachers noticing thinking and tracking thought processes/ strategies that students use internally when working. This includes verbal, non verbal and gathering information through observing. As teachers are observing they will notice learning happening and it will happen in an instant, so it is important for teachers to pay close attention and have a strong pedagogical content knowledge so they know how to recognise, react and respond to the learning taking place states Cowie and Bell…

Students especially like laptops and tablets because they tend to be exposed to those most of all. Laptops can cause a positive change on how students feel about school subjects. School subjects that students usually feel are challenging or uninteresting can become more interesting with access to laptops. When students are not in school, just about everything that they do is connected to technology, in some way. Through integrating laptops into the class, students feel more of a connection with the material.…

Much of the effort would be making sure that each student has an equal voice in the classroom lesson plans. Moreover, each student would be pushed towards reaching their absolute potential, and I would give them as much positive support as needed. Just as it states in the Conceptual Framework Proficiencies, the type of instruction that I choose to lead should help “all students or individuals learn and develop to their fullest potential”. Each person has the potential to be an outstanding academic student, and my goal would be to spark that potential. Conclusion After writing this paper, I’ve again become aware of why exactly I want to become a teacher.…
