Many people see family the traditional way. Any group of people that are closely related by blood such as parents, uncles, aunts, children and cousins whether living together or not. The universal definition of family is two or more people that are either related through blood or are legally married, share economic responsibilities and live under the same roof. Many people of today’s society does not acknowledge any strong bonds or relationships outside these given guidelines as family, whether it be a romantically partnership or on a friendship level. If the relationship cannot be proven on legal documents as family it is not valid. Family should not be defined through blood and similar physical characteristics. Family is not only blood, it is the collect social group of people around you that care for you and love you unconditionally no matter what the circumstances may be.

Having friends is nice and fun but the saying implies that they should never come before your blood family. It also implies that blood relations should be far better developed and important to someone before any other outsider. Blood pertains to a person’s mother, father, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles and cousins. Water pertains to those who do not share the same blood which are the friends who should never be put before the family. Just because you and your brother are birthed from the same mother does not mean the both of you will do what a family is supposed to do which is to love and care for one another unconditionally. You can be born from the same mother and hate each other with a passion. The saying “blood is thicker than water” is false and overrated.
