The Unites States and the importance of community service, and why it is not the best option.

As a citizen of the United States, I do beleive that anyone between the ages of 18 and 30, should be required to serve, but I also think it should be their choice to do so or not. Choosing to volunter is just as important as being required to serve a 1 year community service.

The feeling you get working with others in a group, and working along side different backgrounds, is an educational benefit to anyone who serves. Volunteering, is a great way to not have to serve before you are 30, it allows you to have a life and choose when it fits your schedule.

The great part about "community service", is that it brings people of all backgrounds

Should students be obligated to do community service to graduate? In the article “volunteering to graduate” by Miriam Dodge and Pro/Con: should students service learning hour be mandatory for high school graduation by Claire Koenig and Simrin Gupta it talks about if they should have mandatory service hours to graduate high school. No because if a student wants to learn more skills they should look for a place to volunteer and also some students have an obligation to help out their families for economic reasons. Some students are to busy juggling a job and after school activities to be able to volunteer while they still have their schoolwork to finish.…

Mandatory service is unnessisary in the United States. The main reason I say that is because it is unconstitutional, and defies our rights as citizens to live as we believe is right. Although I fully support our military, government workers, and the such like, I see a major problem with mandatory service. The biggest problem as mentioned below is that a person who is forced to do something will rarely ever put his/her heart into what they are doing. In order for someone to really do a service for our country in any way, they must have the "want to" so to speak to put others in front of themselves.…

I do not believe that all United Sates citizens should be required to to preform at least one year of community service by the time they are thirty years of age. Forcing someone to help when they aren't willing can do more damage than good. If the person does not want to help they shoulfnt be forced to do so. Volunterring comes from the heart of the person, if their heart is not it, it will not be benificial to the people receiving the help. Most people tend to volunteer at churches, food banks, schools and even in the fire department.…

Service learning integrates community service with instruction and teaching that will enrich the learning experience. George Washington said, “When we assumed the soldier, we did not lay aside the citizen,” meaning that one who participated in public service, including the military, was often the common man, usually a farmer or worker. In the United States, many debate whether there should be mandatory public service. Mandatory public service is a widespread topic, while in many other countries, mandatory service is a normalcy. In South Korea, every male of legal age is required to serve 2 years in the military; if deemed unfit for military service, they must spend 2 years in civil service. Many other countries such as Israel require public, mostly military, service, as well.…

Since college students are well suited for community service, by doing community services, they can "create...a lifelong commitment to volunteering. " They can also start "addressing the needs of those around them" because by doing that, they can help their community become better than it was before. Although performing community service can be helpful towards the individual themself and to those who live in the community, young people shouldn't be required to perform public services. Young people should not be forced to complete something that they do not want to do. Nobody wants to recieve "community service from someone who is forced to serve" because it does not give a good feeling to what they are doing.…

Honestly, I agree with both passsages. I believe that in today's world, that we need to include young adults to get involved in training groups to learn without having to pay out of pocket for college cause most of young adults can't afford the tuition and all the other bills colleges want them to pay. It gives them an experience on their hands if they wanted to get a better job to support themselves and provide whether they are on their own or have family that their with. I also agree that in today's world, that we should get our young adults that are men to serve to be able to know what to do if we were ever to have another war in this country. It helps men to protect their family, spouse, kids, and other people who need that man's help.…

This is true in terms or school or the judicial system. As a student at Florida Gulf Coast University I am required to complete 80 hours of service or I can no gradate. I also have to do at least 20 hours every semester with my sorority and even some of my classes require me to do community service hours. A lot of criminals are also given the option to complete community service over jail time. Even though this reason doesn’t seem the most personable or nice, it leads to a lot of good outcome due to the fact that those being forced to do community service often receive more of a blessing from it than those who are being served.…

Because of this, the aspect of mandatory volunteering can only encourage teens to get involved in their community. Once they get their feet wet, many realize it is something they love to do. For instance, an eighteen year old senior completed 350 community service hours after being required to do only fifty hours of service. These eye-opening opportunities in high school can lead to a lifelong passion of giving back. Community service is something I have grown up doing. Throughout my life I have volunteered a lot of my time to organizations within my community. I have served at the community soup kitchen, helped young Monett Water Thrasher Swim Team members improve their strokes, and volunteered as a table worker at Monett High School and Monett Youth Club wrestling tournaments. I have always been very involved in helping individuals within my community. I feel as though performing community service as a child and young adult has shaped me into the person I am today.…
