United Sate Citizens Should Acquire Community Service

Decent Essays
I do not believe that all United Sates citizens should be required to to preform at least one year of community service by the time they are thirty years of age. Forcing someone to help when they aren't willing can do more damage than good. If the person does not want to help they shoulfnt be forced to do so. Volunterring comes from the heart of the person, if their heart is not it, it will not be benificial to the people receiving the help. Most people tend to volunteer at churches, food banks, schools and even in the fire department.
They do so not because they are forced to, but because they love doing it out of the kidness of their heart. Fire Fighter sacrifice a lot to do what they love to do. They risk their lives everyday to protect their community and hardly gte paid for it. They do it because they love it.

Helping others can reduce lower blood pressure and reduce the stress you have. Hepling others comes from the heart and shouldn't have to be requirement for those between the ages of 18 and 30. Forcing someone to do something they dont want to do can most likely result in conflict. Its like trying to force children to eat vegatables of brush their teeth. It always a hassle and they fight you all the way. Same goes for a volunteer, a person who volunteers has compassion for what they are doing and not regret. I think if the United States government were to make it manditory to volunteer less people would want to do it out of kidness and more becuse they were being forced to. Donations would decrease substantualy and volunteering would depleed. Without the donations of the people some places like the churches and schools would have to close in some place because lack of

Community service is not as bad as some people make it out to be. I myself had an internal groan when I heard that community service was required and would be set as a grade. I had only known volunteerism as doing a dull boring task with no discernible reward. But after experiencing it for myself I found it quite the contrary. Volunteering is a way to meet new people and witness a group working toward a greater cause.…

Poverty and hardship pollutes and suffocates our communities. To be a strong, balanced society we need to come together and support those who need it the most. Should students be obligated to do community service to graduate? In the article “volunteering to graduate” by Miriam Dodge and Pro/Con: should students service learning hour be mandatory for high school graduation by Claire Koenig and Simrin Gupta it talks about if they should have mandatory service hours to graduate high school. No because if a student wants to learn more skills they should look for a place to volunteer and also some students have an obligation to help out their families for economic reasons. Some students are to busy juggling a job and after school activities to be able to volunteer while they still have their schoolwork to finish.…

I have completed many hours of community service and I believe that it is my responsibility to involve myself in my community in any way possible. Getting involved in the community helps build a strong character and it teaches certain values that will benefit other communities. Speaking of community improvement, it is also my responsibility to pay any taxes set for me by our state and federal governments. Without taxpayer money, it would be impossible to maintain many of our most precious and crucial government funded organizations. If the American people allowed those organizations to fade away, we would be hurting our country and helping ourselves.…

Mandatory service is unnessisary in the United States. The main reason I say that is because it is unconstitutional, and defies our rights as citizens to live as we believe is right. Although I fully support our military, government workers, and the such like, I see a major problem with mandatory service. The biggest problem as mentioned below is that a person who is forced to do something will rarely ever put his/her heart into what they are doing. In order for someone to really do a service for our country in any way, they must have the "want to" so to speak to put others in front of themselves.…

Should commumity survice be mandatory or opitional? In my position I think that it should be opitional for someone. Most people have jobs that at last 8 or more hours a day, and are tired, that just want to go home and spend some time with their family. In 2009, over 60 million people volunteered to do community survice if I'm not wrong that's a lot of people. And for some people, they are not capable of doing things.…

I think the word hero is carelessly used nowadays, being a hero is being able to earn it through hard work and daily dedication. To many people volunteer work is a job or a career even though they don’t get paid. Like volunteer cops and firefighter who work long hours and risk their lives without pay. Tawanda Jones, the founder of the Camden Sophisticated Sisters Drill Team, helped get kids of the streets of Camden, New Jersey to do something good with the life they were given.…

True American Service One thing that is great about the United States is the right to choose. Mandatory service is a direct conflict to the values on which this country stands. If service became mandatory, we open ourselves to lose the integrity of said service. There's a chance that ill-willed people could be placed in a position to cause others harm, intentionally.…

In the book, The Most Good You Can Do: How Effective Altruism Is Changing Ideas About Living Ethically, by Peter Singer, the author introduces readers to a new movement called “Effective Altruism”. As stated in his book, effective altruism is “a philosophy and social movement which applies evidence and reason to working out the most effective ways to improve the world.” (Singer, 4-5) To be able to practice effective altruism, the book offers several ideas to become an effective altruist such as living modestly to give more, earning to give, giving organs, donating to the most effective charities, and by viewing everyone’s suffering as equal including animals. While many of these strategies are beneficial to the greater good, some may also present…

Mandatory public service in the United States should not generally be required, unless under special circumstances, The idea of liberty and freedom is a very widespread and popular one in the United States. Many, and rightfully so, do not want to be forced to work, or anything at all for that matter. This can also affect many citizens that already have pre-existing pressure or an extensive workload on their hands, such as college, a demanding occupation, or family or financial emergencies. Also, if public service was mandatory, and the citizen performing the service does not willingly do the job, the genuity and heart of the work…

If only there would have been more people volunteering, then so much more people could have been helped. And if more people can be help, then the suffering on earth can be ease. The big problem is that everyone is so busy with their personal life that they forget about the importance of helping others. A positive aspect I saw was that those who were already volunteering were really dedicated and kind hearted. I believe they are making a big impact on every person they touched and made it a task to spread their kindness.…
