How does homosexuality carry more concern/weight then a child being beaten by their parents or a 16 year old being sold into sex trafficking? We wonder why many of our children do not trust adults or want any part of the current system. In addition, why would they want to be part of a believing community that puts them at the bottom of a list, rather than show them they matter and are our first priority?!
In this way, I am at odds with the Book of Discipline. Again, I am not saying we do not need boundaries and ways in which we orchestrate cooperation when conflict ensues.
But what I am concerned about is that we get so focused on the organizational aspects of church that we miss the aspect of the organism of the church. Something living and breathing and that includes a cross-generational vibe. Our numbers are not going up!
