One day a turtle was swimming along with his mother in a pond. It was a usual occurrence that the turtle and his mom spent time together, for he loved her dearly. One day the turtle invited his friend the duck to spend the day swimming with him and his mom. The duck enjoyed his visit with the turtle and went home after the swim.
The next day the turtle was out swimming again with his mom. Turtle’s friend the duck showed up again the next day to swim with them. Day after day the duck came out each time to swim with the turtle, and his mom.

The duck sees nothing wrong with coming back each day. The turtle has said nothing regarding whether or not he is okay or not okay with it. As each day goes by though, the turtle becomes more and more upset, since his time with his mom has been taken. Instead of talking to the duck about how he felt, he lets his frustration build up until he got mad at the duck for him continuing to show up. In the end the duck said he has no friends and no mom, so immediately the turtle feels guilty for his lashing out at his friend and goes to his mom wanting her to make him feel better for his actions. Without knowing it people set up expectations for themselves or others that lead them into frustration, and in turn developing hurt feelings. As a situation arises that encompasses expectations people have to carefully monitor those expectations as not to let those become too much of a focus.
