Unit Life Analysis

Improved Essays
Unit Life: I like my unit a lot. We get along very well without much effort; however, we aren't as close as we could (or maybe should) be. I know that I contribute to that just as much as anyone else does, and that people find myself and the things that I do just as weird and annoying as I find the things that they do weird and annoying. We don’t do many activities together except for required things: church, worship nights, learning components, family dinners etc. This is something that I think should change soon, that we spend more time together, whether that is watching movies together, going skiing, or playing board games. During our past few one on ones, Monica has been asking to me (and I assume she has talked to others also) about how …show more content…
My only complaint is that they are busy fairly often, which makes sense because there are five kids in my host family besides myself. I like my host sisters, brothers, parents, uncles, aunts, and grandparents. I just get along with everyone and fit very well into my host family. I don't know how, but the Service Adventure support committee got me the perfect host family fit.

Service Assignment(s): I am working as close to my dream job as is possible right now. I get to bike to work and spend time outside just about every day. The only bad thing is that it is nearly impossible to ride a bike through more than about five inches of snow. With it being snowy and me biking to work, it is inevitable though. I like my coworkers and supervisors; I get along with them very well. Heck, I even like the cold. I've taken pictures of how much frost collects on my eyelashes on the bike ride into work, and go without glasses or goggles sometimes, just to see how large my "eyelashcicles" can get. I enjoy the work too, I like doing a variety of things. In a typical week, I will help with maintenance, recreation, the science center, and go on a trail patrol all in five days! The BLM is the perfect placement for me, I love

From my work community at the BLM to the community at the soup kitchen where I volunteer on my days off, I feel like I am a useful part of it. I enjoy the occasional days that I work at the Downtown Soup Kitchen. It is a nice change of pace; and the people there are friendly. I enjoy the opportunity of serving others as Jesus did. I also love the Prince of Peace congregation, and the unit’s small

I have donated time in my city, state, country and internationally. Through the many opportunities that I have had for community service, I have been able to broaden my views, and look outside my community at how others experience our world. For my sixty hours of volunteer work I decided to volunteer at a Child Life Center which was in a poverty stricken area in Norfolk, Va. At the child life center my job as a volunteer was to assist the children with their homework, help the staff monitor the children on local field trips, as well as serve as a positive role model for the children. The experience I had at Park Place Child Life Center was one I will honestly never forget. Although I didn’t get any actual counseling experience, I was able to learn the ways that the non-profit organization received their funding, I was able to gain experience in working with the youth, and I was also able to make a positive impact on the lives of children who were considered “at-risk youth”. To go there every day and be able to see the change the children had in their behaviors and how much just some attention and affection from adults impacted their behaviors was honestly amazing.…

I used to be a member of the National Honor Society in J.W. Sexton High School. We met twice a month to discuss about volunteering opportunities such as volunteering in the 40/8 veterans organization, which I helped out from time to time. In the 40/8 veterans organization, the people who work there make food for veterans to eat. I help out by washing the dishes. I also help out my church by assisting and participating in holiday plays, arranging food to be served every other Sunday, and maintaining a clean environment for the church.…

Around winter time last year I came across the “Sacred Heart Church” and within their community was a building that had a very well organized organization that aids immigrants that wanted a better life. As soon as I realized what the cause was I jumped right in and assisted with what I could The process of helping was sponsoring a family by getting them an entirely new wardrobe from head to toe while they eat a hot meal, then they shower and change. While they are waiting for the bus to come to take them to their next destination they get advice from an immigration attorney. I am so blessed to have come across this organization because within the process I met wonderful people and learned to appreciate everything I had.…

Sociologists narrowed the breakdown of our social structure to five different elements, which are: statuses, social roles, groups, social networks, and social institutions. First I will discuss my personal experience with ascribe status, achieved status, and master status. Then I will bring an example of role strain and role conflict from personal experience. Giving the reason why, I will then discuss which one of these two roles is the most difficult in terms of role exit. Ascribed status is viewed by sociologists as an assigned status to a person by society, without his/her unique talents or characteristics.…
