Thank you for the opportunity of interview for the unit clerk position at the Pasqua Hospital where I am inspired to contribute more and am intent on building a career utilizing my skills and talents in new and more challenging ways. For three fantastic years, I have been a porter in a busy hospital emergency department, which is an excellent job, besides the ability to help a variety of people both staff and patients, I witness and appreciate how this department functions and grows as a team. Unexpectedly the unit clerk position sparked my interest during an ordinary day when I had the opportunity to learn that the role of a unit clerk is an integral part of the emergency team. The pivotal event started when an unidentified man walked in and collapsed in front of the triage desk igniting all staff members into action with each team member simultaneously performing their skillful duty. After stepping back from my task of delivering and assisting in positioning the patient on the code stretcher, my attention turned to the unit clerk, which was my normal routine where I awaited further instruction. Although not entirely sure of why in that particular moment, my perception of the unit clerk’s role heightened, I realized that she was the nucleus keeping the care flow going, not only fulfilling and documenting every order for the trauma team but also for other department staff and their patients, as those emergencies did not diminish. Between phoning, faxing, filling out requisitions and documenting, astonishingly she demonstrated calm professional multitasking to the maximum, with each member of the department relying on her to help them fulfill their part of these lifesaving events.
