In this essay I shall be explaining how psychological theories can help understand causes of challenging behaviour and how factors within an individual's life can help to explain the behaviour. Also, to give a definition of challenging behaviour and its usefulness in determining behaviour. I will also be explaining four different types of challenging behaviour. Also demonstrate an understanding of how two different psychological theories can help us understand challenging behaviour I using behaviourists B.F. Skinner as well as Albert Bandura. And lastly analyse how life experiences and situational factors can contribute to challenging behaviour.
"Challenging behaviour used to be called ' problem behaviour ', 'difficult behaviour' or 'socially unacceptable behaviour'. It means that behaviours are a challenge to professionals, teachers, carers and parents. A person with challenging behaviour is not a 'problem' to be fixed and is not doing something 'wrong'. But behaviour is a sign that something isn't working. It shows that there is some unfulfilled need or a problem with communication"(scope.org.uk, 2017.P1)
Eric Erickson's lifespan theory is a good example to show how psychological theories can help understand the causes of challenging behaviours because his theories suggest that development is a lifelong

Banduras theory has a social element, stating that individuals can learn or pick up different kinds of behaviours by watching another's express different behaviour. This is known as observational learning.
"According to Albert Bandura, reciprocal determinism is a model composed of three factors that influence behaviour; The environment, the individual, and the behaviour itself. According to this theory, it's suggested than an individual's behaviour influences and is influenced by both the social world and personal characteristics."

Initial Goals: My initial goals for the program was to take in an equation like 5*(4/3+2^(3-1)) and return the answer to it (26.666667 in this case). I intended it to work with simple arithmetic (multiplication, division, addition, subtraction, exponents, and parentheses). My initial brainstorming resulted in an iterative action. The program would follow the order of operations and begin with the contents of innermost parentheses and replace that portion of the input with the answer before moving one step out into what is now the innermost parentheses.…

Task 10 (D1) Discuss how potential errors in the design and construction of a database can be avoided. One of the potential errors that can occur when creating a database is that field names and names can be spelt incorrectly due to human error this can be difficult to spot if the database is big the way of making sure that there are no naming errors is to make sure that every is checked regularly and more than twice to make sure that the chances of finding a spelling mistake is reduced. Using the wrong data type is another potential error that can occur when creating a database this can be troublesome as if there is a relationship created between the tables and the mistake is found and changed then the database wouldn’t allow you to change the field where the data type is incorrect without removing the relationship first so it will be made into a long process of removing the relationship between the tables changing the data types for each of the table before remaking the relationship between the tables again the way of preventing this is by looking at the field names for the database and then choosing the correct data type also perhaps getting the opinion of another person and rechecking that they are all correct before creating the relationship.…

There is a big difference between conflicts and challenging behaviors, especially in the classroom. Conflict is “an expressed disagreement between children, usually involving property, territory, and/or privilege; or a mistaken behavior by a child or children, disagreed with by a teacher” (Gartrell, 2014, p. 512). Conflict is a natural and daily occurrence. While challenging behavior is define as “conflicts that cause harm or serious disruption; the term often connotes a continuing pattern of such conflicts shown by individual children” (Gartrell, 2014, p. 511). Challenging behavior is not usually found as an everyday occurrence.…

Bandura was studying adolescent aggression and soon became interested in vicarious learning, modeling, and imitation. Albert Bandura had a social learning theory which stressed the importance of observational learning theory which stressed the importance of observational learning, also known as modeling and imitation. Bandura once said, "Learning would be exceedingly laborious, not to mention hazardous if people had to rely solely on the effects of their own actions to inform them what to do.…

This expounds on the fact that people observe, imitate and model what they see (Learning-Theories, ND). The chief ideas of Social Learning Theory are differential association, differential reinforcement, modeling, and definitions. Differential association and definitions propose that people are more likely to turn into a criminal if they engage in criminal patterns and learn behavioral stimuli favorable to crime (Brauer & Tittle, 2012). The remaining two, differential reinforcement and modeling relate to the operant learning processes (Brauer & Tittle, 2012). To take things a bit further, Bandura also put forth the concept of reciprocal determinism.…

This theory was basically the observation that people learned more efficiently by observing other people 's behaviors. “Most human behavior is learned through observationally modeling from observing others”, this clearly mean that a child will learn how to perform certain tasks by watching their mother or siblings perform the same exact task. For example, the child shown in the babies movie who lives in Namibia, named Ponijao is shown in the beginning of the movie sitting next to his brother hitting a rock against another rock. This may seem like any easy task to accomplish but for a baby it isn 't seen as ‘common sense’ or a common action, it is simply the act of them mimicking and trying to do exactly what their sibling is doing, by observing. Which is what Bandura was trying to prove his theory, that children are able to learn better by observing others close to them such as friends and family.…

Bandura defines social learning as the acquiescence of a certain behavior through direct learning, observation or imitation of models (Bandura 1971:3). Bandura’s theory also indicates that the interaction of individual factors, environmental factors and behavioral factors determined the human behavior and all three factors are interrelated and affect each other. This concept was named as the reciprocal determinism. The aforementioned scholar proved the theory of social learning by the infamous “Bobo doll” experiment. Bandura (1965) explains that nursery school children were divided into three groups and observed an aggressive film mediated model either rewarded, punished or left without consequence.…

Another theory of personality is Social-Cognitive Learning Theory, established by Albert Bandura. It states that individuals’ personalities are shaped by other people’s actions plus individuals’ own expectancies about learning. Some parts of the Social Cognitive Perspective are similar to Behaviorism, the Social Cognitive Perspective concerned with how judging, memory, anticipating, and imitation forms one’s personality (Cicarelli & White, 2011). Unlike Behaviorism, which does not focus on one’s thoughts, Bandura’s Theory states that…
