Building an effective team amongst teachers can be a hard task to achieve. Skuza, (2013) recommends that in order to organize an effective team first and foremost roles and responsibilities must be given to each team member. That criteria would be different per manager and the situation the team is built on.…

Over the past 5 years of my teaching career, I had the chance to be a mentor for 3 student teachers during their 3rd or 4th year of university. Cooperative learning is a teacher-directed teaching method where the students work together to achieve a common task. There are many components to cooperative learning, one of which being student team learning. “STL” is based on three concepts: team rewards, individual accountability, and equal opportunities for success. Lesson planning is a highly important part of teaching. Lesson plans are a teacher’s guide in his or her class room. They outline the learning goals and objectives for a particular lesson or chapter; they may also include the activity the teacher has planned and the supplies they will need to help the students complete that assignment. During my field placement I have yet to see my cooperating teacher plan out her lessons for the week, but it is clear she has a lesson plan. She usually has a lecture planned out for each day and she uses the textbook to outline the students learning objectives.…

Teachers enter the profession with various levels of readiness and continue to learn on the job, especially in the beginning years. However, almost half of all beginning teachers will leave their classroom within the first five years of their teaching career (Phillips & Ingersoll, 2015). One factor contributing to this statistic is that many new teachers are not involved in a formal mentoring program (Grossman & Davis, 2012). This rings true for Tuscaloosa County School System. New teachers in Tuscaloosa County Schools participate in new teacher training that only consists of monthly meetings focused mainly on professionalism.…
