Unit 4 Honors Extension The podcast shed a lot of light on the power of art and the lasting effects of false interpretation on the world. When Ronald McDowell was asked to build a statue in honor of the famous foot soldiers in Birmingham, he chose to change specific things on purpose to enhance the message of the photograph. He took artistic license and changed the appearance of Walter Gadsden to look more african instead of light skinned and to make him lean back instead of forward. He also made the dog look more like a wolf and made officer Middleton taller than Walter and more threatening with larger sunglasses. With these changes, the statue certainly has a greater effect on those who see it, but it is nowhere close to authentic. Walter

In this section the fast-recovery algorithm that makes TCP NewReno[1] perform better than the Reno[3], is described. During congestion avoidance if the sender receives triple duplicate ACKs, then it performs fast-retransmission and enters into fast-recovery. In fast-retransmit the sender retransmits the lost segment, sets the threshold value for slow-start as ssthresh = cwnd/2, and sets congestion window, cwnd = ssthresh+3 segments. In fast-recovery, the sender increases its congestion window by one segment for each subsequent duplicate ACK received that indicates a segment is reaching the destination. It can transmit new segments if permitted by its congestion window.…

In class discussions, one thing that really stood out to me was the discussion regarding the integration efforts within the Israeli society. Specifically, the author questions what kind of system is necessary in order to have smooth integration with the least amount of tension and culture conflict. The author then describes how he believes it is democratic pluralism. Which has been seen in Switzerland and Canada. Also how one had to maintain silence, as it talks about when the author explains his realization on the gravity of the ethnic problem in Israel in 1951.…

I held the figurine in my hand and I was complementing the owner when suddenly another man (he identified himself that he practiced Islam) questioned the representation of the figure and why we worship it. His voice was not amicable and sounded as if we were completely on the wrong path by believing in the figurine. I tried to explain to him that we don’t actually worship the statue, but to Jesus itself. I didn’t feel offended by his words, but I got the impression that people who practice Islam are…

However one's devotion to what they love may come with the dismissal of cynical actions. For my first journal, I choose “Hercules Upholding the Heavens” by artist Paul Manship. It is located in the sculpture courts in the fine arts museum of Houston. What initially attracted me to this piece of art was the sense of power it radiated. Growing up, Hercules has been one of my favorite Disney movies; so having the chance to see one of my biggest fascinations come to life before my eyes obviously sparked something in me. The sculpture itself portrays Hercules performing the eleventh of his twelve labors.…
