E-commerce technologies
Describe and define the technologies required for e-commerce including the following (P1):-
Hardware
• Web servers: A server where the entire website is hosted from. This is useful in an e-commerce sense as it manages connections to the site and checks account information against its database.
• Download speeds: The speed in which data is sent and received from the internet from specific nodes or user computers. Download speed is important so that the processors can send and receive information quickly.
Network:
• TCP/IP address: The address that the domain is masked to, the location of the website. Allows connection to the web server via an easy to remember URL.

An example of this Burslem high street which has seen a plummet in people and sales.
• Less employment / offshoring jobs: Nowadays, it is cheaper to have a product manufactured in a different country such as, China or India where there is a much lower minimum wage and ends up being cheaper to ship the product to England than for the product to be made in England. This means that there are less companies which actually manufacture in the UK and therefore the workforce isn’t needed.
• Brick and click companies (high street and internet): High street companies that are also online. An example of this is Mr Simms who have a large amount of stores in the UK but also sell online.
• Reliance on delivery services: If an E-Commerce delivery system is reliable, then people will be more likely to use them over a less reliable competitor. People don’t want to be waiting in all day for a delivery that will arrive between 9 and 5.
• Globalisation: Having a presence across the globe allows more opportunities for the company. An example of this is Volkswagen who have acquired companies such as Porsche and have u8sed their distribution contacts to distribute their own
