Unit 3 Music Video

The three music videos I have chosen are “For Everybody” by Juicy J, “All Eyes On You” by Meek Mill, and “Earned It” by The Weeknd. For the first music video, “For Everybody,” the cast is very diverse except for the artists who are all African-American. However, the women in the video are of all different cultures. The video portrays women as objects as they just walk about and flaunt their mostly naked bodies on the screen. Not only does the video portray the women as objects, but the lyrics refer to these women as “hoes” that are for “everybody”. Also, when the artist implies that a man is about to propose he says “Fuck man, is you cray?” Along with the artist calling these women hoes, Wiz Khalifa says “sharin’ is carin’ that pussy ain’t gold.” This line goes to show that this entire video and song represent women as something men can possess. These outfits consist of black X’s over their butt and breasts as well as a black leotard open to show their butt and breasts. The lyrics constantly refer to how a girl has “earned it” which seems to be referring to sexual favors. These lyrics imply that women need to earn men, and prove they are worthy enough, which is completely repulsive. Every single one of these women in the video could be replaced with a lamp and the video would be exactly the same. At one point the singer has a woman spread out with only her nipples covered, and she is tied up in rope hanging from the ceiling. Along with the rest of the videos, this one has absolutely no positive portrayal of anything as it is all about how women need to earn a man. These videos are all very disturbing, and it is actually surprising how it is okay for these type of things to be available to children and young adult in a society that should be fighting for
