Unit 3 Discussion In mathematics, squaring a number is basically multiplying it by itself. It is simply impossible for two different numbers, when squared, to give the same results, because all positive real numbers have two square roots; a positive and a negative. For instance, in the following problem,(x^2=4) although it may seem as (x = 2) is the only solution, that is not true. If you solve using the Square Root Property, you can conclude that there are two solutions; (x = 2 or x = -2).…

The question I wish to answer is why BBP formulas are so much better at calculating pi than any other method that came before it. I find it interesting that this method only provides the exact digit of pi in question and does not require the calculation of any of the previous digits of pi. For all of the methods that proceeded it like the polygon approximation and infinite series methods, each digit was required to be calculated before the next one could be found. Another compelling fact is that this avenue of calculating pi has been hypothesized as the key to discovering whether pi is truly random or not. Though it is still unproven as of now so I don’t expect to make any breakthroughs myself, uncovering more about this topic interests me…

The problem or the issue addressed is on how to parallelize the computation, distribute the data, and handle failures conspire to obscure the original simple computation with large amounts of complex code to deal with these issues. Contributions are simple powerful interface that gives parallelization and distribution of large scale systems. So to tackle the issue of parallelization, fault tolerance and distribution of data, they acquired the map and reduce primitives. The use of a functional model with user-specified map and reduce operations allows us to parallelize large computations easily and to use re-execution as the primary mechanism for fault tolerance.…

In class discussions, one thing that really stood out to me was the discussion regarding the integration efforts within the Israeli society. Specifically, the author questions what kind of system is necessary in order to have smooth integration with the least amount of tension and culture conflict. The author then describes how he believes it is democratic pluralism. Which has been seen in Switzerland and Canada. Also how one had to maintain silence, as it talks about when the author explains his realization on the gravity of the ethnic problem in Israel in 1951.…

It seems that throughout American history that if you weren’t the typical “white” American your voice wasn’t heard, as if their opinions and values were “muted” from the “white” American. Society had been become so “whitewashed” throughout time that if you were any other race you were basically invisible in work and society besides with your own group of people. This doesn’t only apply to race as gender also plays a big role into this as well as women were not as privileged as the men. Out of Units 1-3 I choose to discuss article 1, 3, 5, 6 and 34.…

Over the span of 13 years, the Transporter series has morphed into a modest little franchise – with emphasis on the “little” portion of that statement, since three combined installments have barely surpassed $200 million (total), worldwide. Still, conservative budgets allowed for tolerant box office turnarounds, thus leading to future sequels. At the same time, the conservative budget finally cost the franchise its leading man – Jason Statham, who started in all three of the previous films. However, Statham has gone on the record as saying he wanted to do more, but didn’t sign on for future sequels due to poor pay and the inability to see scripts ahead of time.…
