What an open loop system is:
An open loop system is a system that is designed to achieve a specific result and it is designed to be run again and again, but there is no way of tracking if the result has actually been attained. This is because open loop systems do not check if the goal has been reached.
Three examples of an open loop system:
Light switch
TV Remote
Toaster
Why each system can be seen as an open loop system:
Light switches can be seen as an open loop system because the system is based around a trigger and in this case the switch that turns on the light. But for instance if the light bulb was already broken, the switch would fail to work. This doesn’t make it an open loop system but the …show more content…
So for example it will use sensors to measure the temperature inside of the room, and will alter the temperature by releasing air relative to the temperature and the settings that are set (for example hotter, colder). This is an example of how the controller checks the feedback and makes an appropriate response in order to attain the goal.
A thermostat can be seen as a closed loop system as it has a similar concept to an air conditioner; it uses the feedback of measuring the temperature using sensors to see if it too cold or hot; then it would turn on and off different devices that are relevant to how the temperature needs to be altered. So there is an alteration of how the system works with the use of the feedback given.
A kettle is a closed loop system as once again it uses the feedback of the temperature of the water using sensors to decide when the process needs to be stopped. The temperature will be measured up until it hits 100 degrees Celsius (assuming it is water being boiled) and once it hit’s that temperature it will get ready to stop the process as it has reached the …show more content…
Therefore a central heating system will use the difference between the temperature that is being set and the actual set point so for example, the temperature is 38 degrees Celsius. The heating system will get close to this temperature say 37 degrees or so but it will use the remaining power that has not been used for the temperature and distribute it somewhere else such as the power to keep the boiler
