Swimming Alternate Assignment (4th Quarter)

Many benefits exist to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Additionally, there are many aspects to fitness that help improve one’s lifestyle. Two aspects of fitness that help exponentially are cardiovascular fitness and flexibility. Cardiovascular fitness is the ability of a person’s heart and other organs to transport and utilize oxygen. Flexibility is the range of motion of a joint and the ability to move one’s joints effectively. Expert panels supported the scientific evidence found that linked regular exercise to cardiovascular health. The overall conclusion was that more fit individuals have less of a chance of developing coronary heart

There are two specific cardiovascular activities that are quite beneficial to fitness. The first is swimming. Swimming is an excellent way to both burn calories and stay in shape. One benefit that swimming has as opposed to running is that it is a no impact form of exercise. This means one can swim with injuries and actually remedy them instead of worsening them. Not only that, but swimming also provides resistance on the full body and through a variety of movements. Swimmers tend to me more muscular and toned as opposed to runners, who often lack upper body strength. Specifically, swimming helps tone the abs, shoulders, and triceps to name a few of the many muscle groups that swimming benefits. There are also numerous different strokes to choose from to focus on a specific muscle group, if one wishes to do so. The second form of cardiovascular exercise is trampolining. This is a fun activity that burns many calories at the same time. One can either find a exercise class for this near them, or one can simply buy a small trampoline to have at home.
