What new ideas I have been learning in English 111 so far is how to the use rhetorical devices more in writing my papers, and notices them as well when reading. I always know what ethos, logos, and pathos were be I never try to identify them in my papers of in articles, textual artifacts or in media. So I enjoy learning about that so far. Specifically, the focus on inquiry, content analysis, the application of various rhetoric writing strategies, the accurate development of theses and related statements, and the audience awareness are the primary components that ensure steady academic growth. Over the course of this semester in my English 1320 class I have seen a drastic change throughout my writing style. Although I still have difficulties with a few writing tasks, I believe that I have improved significantly throughout this course. I have found that with my professor’s guidance along with my own personal editing that my grades have increased. While taking a class in college, many people just go through the motions and show up to class to get the job done. But after taking my first English Composition class this fall I realized how much important material and knowledge I have gained. During the class we learned everything from little bits of grammar to writing six page papers. Written language is a trait known to be only possessed by mankind. Although other species may have audible forms of communication, man is able to record and document his thoughts, feelings, or events that have unfolded in a way that can be viewed multiple times without him having to use his voice over and over. Literacy is a skill that adults in the United States are expected to have; but the level of your literacy says a lot about you and can have a tremendous impact on what career you end up in. At the beginning of freshman year one of my first assignments at college level was to write a literary analysis.
