In Liberty Leading the People and the statue of liberty, liberty is portrayed as a woman. These women embodied power as well as freedom and are portrayed as colossal and majestic in both these examples. Heroic and strong body language are used in both to show passion and strength. Liberty leading the people relies more on emotion than the statue of liberty, causalities to make the viewer sympathize the struggle of people for their freedom. Color is a powerful tool that Delacroix uses to portray this emotion. Dark and vibrant colors are used in this painting and it gives Liberty leading people a completely different feeling and gives insight into the despair and hardships of the French revolution.
