Herzberg believed that staff members were not sourly the way of motivating people. Other methods used by businesses to motivate their employees, for example are job enrichment, flexible hours and perks as well as many others. At Argos they offer flexible contracts to their employees. For example some members of staff will complete 3 hours of work per shift which would cater to some employee with children in school and some will do 7 hour days. Argos also offers job enrichment to all of their employees. A prime example of this is that staff that perhaps spend a considerable amount of time on the tills will be trained so that they can also spend time in the stock room or bringing in deliveries. Advantages of introducing job enrichment into Argos is that employee will fell refreshing about doing something new relinquishing boredom. It can also make employee feel recognised therefore increasing morale which in turn increases the quality of results. It also makes it easier if an employee becomes ill and absent another employee an interchange and easily take up their role in the business therefore preventing gaps. Another non monetary incentive used by Argos is goal setting, a team leader will tell all of the employee at the begging of the shift what is expected and what needs to be achiveed during the week. The increases motivation because the staff then have a clear view of what needs to be done. Once the target is met it will increase overall motivation and moral drastically as there will be a sense of achievement after completing the task set. This will then carry over on to other tasks. Another contemporary legislation related to computing that complies with my job role of a Software Developer is Computer Misuse Act. This act introduced three criminal offences: • Unauthorised access to computer systems, which is known as “hacking” • Unauthorised access with the intent to commit to an offence • Unauthorised changes to computer materials Computer Misuse act has a big impact on my job role - I have to be aware I do not commit any of the offences under this act for example if I access any unauthorised computer at my work place to which I don’t have an authorised right to use – this would appear to be “hacking” and it would be a criminal offence under Computer Misuse Act. There are many different areas that this term covers such…

Motivation is important for business because if an employee is not motivated, this might lead to an increase in absenteeism or even lower rates of labour One of the earliest theories of motivation was the theory of human relation management put forward by Elton Mayo (1930). This was based on the principle that workers would be more motivated and therefore perform better when working conditions and social needs are a key incentive. Mayo believed that having someone take an interest in another’s work, in itself, leads to better productivity. What he also believed in was that employees respond to changes in the working environment. The theory states that the workplace is a social system and that employees like to work in groups.…
