Nursing is the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in care of individuals, families, communities, and populations (2010).
The profession of nursing varies from other health care professions by the level of trust and dignity the profession is regarded with, development of intimate nurse-client relationships, and the quality of care provided to clients. One of the core values that nursing implements is trust. According to the annual Gallup survey, the public usually values nurses as individuals who can be trusted with providing medical care. A nurse must help the client reach a state of inner peace or harmony in order to be considered completely healthy.
