Sharon Zukin’s “A Tale of Two Globals: Pupusas and IKEA in Red Hook” explores upon the impact of consumer culture on the two types of globalization: street food vendors and IKEA in Red Hook to explain the diverse and complicated concept of authenticity and the circumstances revolving around the authentic urban experience. For the most part, Zukin concentrates on the changes of consumer culture and trends and how they affect the physical layout of the urban space (e.g., restaurants, markets, and etc.), thus becoming a catalyst for gentrification and the creation of authenticity. She delves into how Red Hook was able to transition “from an urban wasteland into a destination” as a result (189). Throughout the chapter, she discusses many important…

The 1920s was a change in society one way is through the economy. In the 1920s the economy rose dramatically; this was because of the creation of credit. Credit was a way for people to buy things without paying for them until later. This led people to purchase things that were luxury items instead of things necessary for survival. Which led to the creation of the “Boom Cycle” which is demonstrated in Document 1.…
We interact and experience architecture every day. It is physically impossible not to and because of this, it is incredibly easy to take it for granted and to forget about all the thought and care that was taken to create such huge feats. Worcester’s Union Station is located directly off of highway 190 in Worcester, Massachusetts. Thousands of people pass by it on a daily basis without even realizing that it is something more than a “pretty train station”. Before we begin, let’s answer the question of just why are train stations so grand?…

Furthermore, no one was annoyed by the amount of people present. Everyone understood their place and the place that they were in, and were respectful towards both. In Erik Larson’s The Devil in the White City, Larson brought up the stories of origins if the fair, its purpose, and the impact that it had on America. Many unpopular products have become trends and the presence of those trends can still be seen today. The Chicago Fair made electricity a popular demand in business, brought new cultural trends to life, and guided us towards a more consumer-based society such as the modern one in which we live in; it even invented the Juicy Fruit gum. Due to the vast amount of people the fair brought in, the influence remained long-term.…

FromFrom 1800 to 1848 American was in the midst of the Market Revolution. These two factors created a strong enough divide between the citizens of the United States to the point where the Market Revolution started to become a negative factor.…
Due to its founders being African-American and not very well off the town lacked the basic necessities of running water, plumbing, or gas stoves. This simple life was made harder by the easily flooded swamp lands that the town was built upon, residents often had to canoe out of their houses to work and school. Though it was a hard life nearly all of the residents were employed, in factories or domestically. Hyde Park should’ve been the very essence of a Norman Rockwell painting. The only problem was that it sat in the middle of an industrial complex.…
In the book, “The Market Revolution”, by Charles Sellers, Seller talks about the period in American History from 1815 to 1846. Seller refers to this time period as the “Jacksonian America”. Sellers main argument is that the major social revolution, created by capitalism, that occurred after the War of 1812 caused American politics to turn from constitutional republicanism to a more democratic way of politics. He believes Jackson was a main reason for this change in American politics. Jackson’s main policies consisted of breaking down the Bank of the U.S., the achievement of extending the voting right to white men without power, and rooting out all corruption in American politics.…
1) Identify Challenges After reading the case of Oliver’s Market, I found out some issues that associated with this company internally and externally. Internal Issues: 1.Oliver’s market kept investing on its Cotati Store, but the landlord even didn’t want to talk to them, which means all of its two million investments may disappear if the landlord decides not to rent the place to them after the ten-year lease ended. That is a huge financial and location loss issue for Oliver’s Market. 2.Another issue is as a family owned company, the current owner had health issue that couldn’t allow them to work too much. The successor, who is interested in store design and décor rather than running business, therefore, there is no a real successor that…
