Introduction
According to multiple highly regarded review websites, Union Jack Pub in Broad Ripple is one of the top soccer bars in Indianapolis. Yelp ranks Union Jack as the number two soccer bar in Indy, after only Chatham Tap on Mass Ave (Yelp.com). For reference, in 2014 Chatham Tap was rated the number one soccer bar in the U.S. (GQ). Moreover, Foursquare ranks Union Jack as the number one bar to watch soccer, ahead of Chatham (Foursquare.com). Clearly, Union Jack is the place to be in Broad Ripple and all of Indianapolis when a soccer match is on.

My interview with Mr. Wetzel was centered around the soccer culture that Union Jack has. I wanted to see how important it was to him and what his attitude towards that crowd is. I quickly learned that both owners take great pride in being a “home base” for many soccer fans/clubs. Over the years, Mr. Wetzel has gotten close with many of the supporters and they have helped expand the Union Jack target market. Mr. Wetzel raves about how understanding and helpful the soccer fans are. He believes that they work as a form of salespeople and advertisers for the pub. However, Mr. Wetzel makes a point to emphasize that soccer does not “run” the pub. He exclaimed “when soccer is not playing (which is more often than not), we still have events going on and great food to be eaten. I want to expand further into the Butler community as well as the greater Indianapolis community.” Mr. Wetzel believes the soccer community accounts for only about 25% of the total Union Jack customer base. The majority, 75%, of customers are not coming to Union Jack to watch soccer as their primary
