The Problem of Uninsured Motorists I was recently involved in a car accident which made my car spin 180 degrees that resulted in facing the opposite side of the street. The only injuries that I had from the accident were minor injuries. The law needs to be more strictly enforced for drivers that don’t have insurance. Thousands of drivers today on the road are uninsured motorists and think that they are better than the law. Driving is not a right but is an earned privilege. Colorado was a no fault state until 2003. Since 2003, Colorado uses what is called a tort system to determine who is at fault. According to the Department of Motor Vehicle’s website, Colorado requires all drivers to have $25,000 liability insurance coverage to cover damages …show more content…
I was involved in accident on September 17, 2016, I had to go to the hospital to get checked out before I got a hold of my insurance. I went to the hospital to get treated for minor injuries. Later on, I found out that the individual who hit me was an uninsured motorist and my car was totaled. During this process of finding who was at fault, I had no car to use so that I can get to work and school on a daily basis. However, after I got a hold of my insurance and figured things out, I was able to get a rental car. Furthermore, I had to empty out my savings account and get a loan from my bank to help pay for a new car. To this day I still have pain in my lower back and my left knee. Currently, I am going to physical therapy to help reduce the pain in my lower back. Luckily, I have a good enough policy that will cover my medical expenses from uninsured motorists up to $5,000. The bad part of having uninsured motorists on my policy is that I am currently out of $500 which is my deductible. Unfortunately, most people don’t have uninsured motorists on their policy.
