Would Uniforms Solve Dress Code Problems?

What’s wrong with being a woman in society, humans were all created the same so why are women told to hide their body for “the sake of men”? Growing up girls are told to cover up that way a man can't stare at you a certain way, and yes people have sick minds, but we’re in a school environment, we should teach boys how to “control” themselves instead. Developing years do tend to lead to feelings and changes but people still need to be respectful. Most males have wives, sisters, and mothers so they must already know girls require certain clothing for their developing years. If school were to have uniforms would all the problems be solved? With uniform you’d be 90% assured coverage, but kids still can

For example, “Actions like these train girls to think of (telling a girl to put a jacket on or cover themselves up more) and define themselves based on the male gaze. Dress codes recontextualize the way women and girls view themselves. When you tell a girl to put on a sweater, you take control of her body. When you do this, even if you say it’s for her “own good”, you take away her agency. You tell her that your body is not her own.” Yes, boys also get dress coded, but look at their reasons for the action. They're pants are either sagging, they're wearing a tank top with too much skin showing through the sides or their shirt contains language or something related to alcohol; boys have also worn shirts with women on them revealing a small amount of no coverage and yet they're not violating the dress code. So why is that girls can't wear tank tops they're shirts just with no sleeves and thin straps, girls are told to wear bras yet when a bra strap is seen they're asked to “put it away”. There are men who are slightly bigger who have breasts bigger than many women, yet don’t wear bras so technically girls don't have to either. Are they afraid their nipples will show, boys nipples show sometimes as well; a nipple is not a sexual organ, everyone has a

I have decided to write this journal article on an article that I found online that speaks directly to experiences that I had throughout middle school and high school. The article is titled, “The Sexism of School Dress Codes”. A young girl named Maggie Sunseri noticed that the dress codes in her school were geared more directly to girls than it was to boys. At first, Maggie rightfully saw this concept to be unfair. The rationale that the administrators gave behind this idea, however, was even more upsetting to Maggie.…

Lately, I have been pondering on the harsh dress code rules. When did my shoulders become something I should be ashamed of showing? When did it become a secret that girls wear undergarments? Admonishing girls for letting their shoulders or bra straps show is the most ridiculous form of dress code. Dress coding this harshly can promote negative feelings about their bodies, when they already feel bad enough.…

My AP Literature teacher, Mr. Mercer, once asked my class a serious question: why do women apologize so much? A thoughtful pause followed while the class, females especially, pondered the answer. My teacher elaborated with a short anecdote about a female student from a previous class: Mr. Mercer was standing in front of the doorway before class, speaking with another student. The female student approached the doorway so Mr. Mercer and the student courteously moved out of the way. The female student nodded and uttered a quick “sorry” as she hustled past them.…

In today's society, we are faced with a problem that was never prevalent before; a crime that goes unseen like no other, and that is rape. Along with new societal norms, we've adapted a new language, one riddled with bigotry and double standards. Disrespect is at an all time high- women are objectified and thrown around by men- and it is all due to the usage of one word: slut. This word, which is synonymous to prostitute, is used in all areas, from describing an outfit, to body shaming, to degradation of a girl who kissed a boy in the wrong place at the wrong time.…

Everyone has their own opinion on what attire is appropriate for school; some people may feel that some of the clothes that the girls wear is “too much”, but what exactly is too much? A majority would say that revealing shoulders and bra straps are inappropriate, but others would think differently. While some of the clothes people wear shouldn’t be worn in a learning environment, society shouldn’t be biased and make a fair dress code for both male and female students because it can make female women students ashamed of their bodies, which is degrading and makes them out to be sexual objects. With male students having the privilege to wear almost whatever they want, it makes females feel like they should cover up their bodies due to the fact that their bodies can distract boys from getting an education.(Since a females education isn’t as important). There has been many incidents where a female student would be taken out of class or sent home because her shoulders were showing or was wearing shorts on a hot day.…

If someone were to walk into a classroom and asked,”How many girls in here have been dress coded?” most girls would raise their hands; however if you were to walk into a class and asked,”How many boys have been dress coded?” none or very few would raise hands. There are many reasons that girls are more likely to get dress coded. Throughout my high school career I've always wondered why I've never seen a boy get dress coded… only girls.…

I’m so over girls getting bashed for the same exact things that guys do but they get props for it. Girls are so discriminated against for the things they wear, how they act, if they curse, and for every little thing we do we get scolded. I’m not a feminist or anything like that, I’m just speaking against a problems I see everyday. For instance how many times do you see a guy get in trouble for what they wear besides the acausal curse word or inappropriate logos on their shirts. I used to get harassed in middle school for wearing ripped jeans and tank tops but I would see a guy wearing a basketball jersey and ripped jeans and they wouldn’t even get bothered.…

Every school across the United States, and schools internationally, have a dress code for their students. Although each one varies from the other they have the same basic guidelines; graphic designs, logos, mottoes, phrases, and images may not convey messages that are vulgar, offensive, sexually explicit, affiliated with gangs, or reference things that are illegal such as drugs; undergarments must be covered; spaghetti straps and tank tops are prohibited; dresses and skirts must reach a minimum length on the thighs, and hats are also prohibited (Elizabeth). According to the American Civil Liberties Union in Pennsylvania, they state that school officials argue that the limitations involved in a dress code have the effect of encouraging students…

Feminism is necessary to achieve not superiority, but gender equality and eliminate the stigma and prejudice that is automatically inflicted on someone who identifies as a female. Feminism is not about women being greater or better than men, but about us being equal in the world and creating social justice for the female gender. We need feminism to achieve the equality that we so long for while empowering women to the point of equality without the systematic oppression and overpowering of men. Empowering women does not require the overpowering of men, and that is not what feminism aims for, the mere fact that that is the first thing thought of when it is said that we need feminism, is another reason as to why we need feminism. We should not…

School uniforms should be required in school systems because they increase attendance, create a safer learning environment and resist peer pressure; that all play a role in benefiting ones academic achievement. School uniforms are not enforced as a punishment to students, but instead are benefiting them in ways they might not see. Attendance has been higher in schools that implement school uniforms, which shows people are more passionate in their learning. Uniforms also create a safe environment for students to learn and not worry about gangs and violence because of administrators being able to pin point suspicious activity. An unsafe school environment could interfere efforts towards improvement in student achievement.…

School Uniforms School uniforms have been a controversial subject on whether students should wear them or not. There are many ways students can be conservative for school other than wearing a uniform. Therefore, I don’t think uniforms are necessary. School uniforms should not be mandatory because students should be able to express themselves, you pay more for certain uniforms, and it can affect one’s self-image. Students should be able to express themselves and uniforms take away their originality.…
