Unhealthy Spine Health

Improved Essays
Is your spine healthy? Back problems, neck problems, and pain while standing contribute to an unhealthy spine. Nevertheless, it's difficult to investigate spine health if pain is nonexistent. Regardless, use this guide to assist in strengthening and maintaining the spine.

Rest
During sleep, the spine should relax and reenergize for the upcoming day. Unfortunately, spinal problems persist the next day. This may come from a horrible mattress and/or a pillow. Use two pillows to sleep instead of one to avoid neck pain. Mattresses in poor condition contribute to spine, neck, and back problems. Replace old mattresses with new ones. Lastly, sleep on the side. The stomach and back sleeping conditions stress the spine.

The shoes support the lower back, and a strong lower back supports the spine. Therefore, ensure the shoes are comfortable to the feet. Comfortable shoes make wearers forget the shoes are on. The shoes must provide comfort to the activity (running, shopping, etc.). Insert shoe insoles or orthotics for further support.

Health
Exercise is critical for spine health. Get active by walking, biking, swimming, and/or playing outside with children. At the gym, strengthen the core (lower back and abdominal muscles) with exercise. It will assist in spine strength. You can also exercise at home. Lastly, listen to the body if unusual pain occurs. Visit the doctor if pain is serious. Untreated problems will worsen. Furthermore, being overweight increases the risk of spinal, back, and neck problems by adding stress to lower back components like ligaments and muscles.

Lift
Lift objects by bending knees first, then using the legs to lift. The lifted object must be close to the body and never lift the object above the head. The back should stay straight throughout the lift. Don't twist and turn the body during the lift. Lifting objects using the back tear spine and back muscles. Ask for help if lifting is

In this style of deadlift there is considerably less leg movement than the sumo deadlift. In the February 2nd article,"5 Strength-Training Mistakes That Are Wrecking Your Workouts," Kristin Canning, described the importance of proper form in 5 main strength exercises in excellent detail. While each description had great informative information, there are some additional comments I have pertaining to how a person's individual body shape affects one's ability to perform these exercises with perfect form. In the article, Canning discusses the reasons you may feel pain in certain areas and that form is the culprit. While you should keep a neutral spine and hinge at the hips, one important fact that was missing was that you should lift with your legs, not your back.…

My hips are uneven, my ribcage is twisted, and my waist falls differently on each side of my body. When I trace my fingers down my spine, I follow the winding path of three, 50 degree curves. For most of my adolescence, I strapped myself into a back brace for 23 hours a day. I remember the painful purple bruises from its tight, velcro straps, the embarrassment of being held aside at security lines, the misery of wearing five layers in the summer, and the taunts of one of my classmates who punched me and shouted, “Hard back! Hard back!”…

Choosing a chiropractor is almost as important as choosing a primary care physician. While there is a definite science to chiropractic care, is also an art in practice. For the most part, chiropractic is based on a philosophy that the entire body can only function at its optimal level if the column is properly aligned. Of course, other areas of the body are worked as well, but the spine is imperative. Different chiropractors have different methods to perform similar tasks.…

The most common types of Idiopathic Scoliosis are thoracic scoliosis which the curve is found in the upper back creating a C shape, Lumbar scoliosis which is found in the lower back creating a C- shape, and thoracolumbar scoliosis which the curve is found in both the thoracic and lumbar spine creating a S- shaped curve. Scoliosis is usually seen if one hip or one shoulder may appear higher than the other, shoulder blades may stick out, the body may lean to one side, difficulty of breathing is common if the thoracic curve pushes on the lungs, and when pressure is on the spinal cord and nerves causing backpain. Currently, there are no treatment for Scoliosis that can fix the spine perfectly and make it straight. However, there are methods that can help reduce the degree of the curve such as back bracing which can be used to treat children with 20-40 degrees to help reduce the curve since it puts pressure in order to give strength to the spine and physical therapy can be used to help strengthen the back and improve balance and posture. Spinal fusion is a major surgery that usually takes several hours to complete which is used for degrees above 40 in which rods, hooks, wires, and screws are attached to the curved part of the backbone in order…
