A. According to the book, “adults, according to federal standards, should get 45 to 65 percent of calories from carbohydrates, 20 to 35 percent from fat, and 10 to 35 percent from protein” (pg. 143). By looking at my 7-day food log, it seems that I am not consuming enough carbohydrate calories into my diet; the average consumption of carbohydrate calories daily for me was anywhere from 23% to 47% which is considered to be low according to federal standards. For protein calories, it seems that I am not consuming enough protein calories into my diet as well; the average consumption of protein calories daily for me was anywhere from 9% to 24% which is considered to be also low according to federal standards. The unfavorable aspects that I found in my current diet would be that I am not consuming enough carbohydrates, proteins, and fats calories daily into my diet. Carbohydrates are important for my body since they create glucose which is a type of sugar used for my body’s energy or to be stored away for later used. However, not getting enough carbohydrates will cause my body to have the lack of energy to function properly and cause fatigue. Proteins are also important for my body since they are used to build and repair bones, muscles, cartilage, and blood. However not getting enough protein into my body cause me to have a poor immune system and have a slow recovery from injuries. Fats are important because they help my body absorb vitamins and insulate my body to help keep me warm. Some favorable aspects that I found in my current diet would be that I intake alot of water throughout the day which helps my body stay hydrated. Drinking a lot of water through the day also helps me my body to circulate nutrients and help prevent dehydration which can cause my body to disrupt the levels of salts and sugars causing interference to my body’s functions. Another favorable aspect that I found in my current diet is that I eat light healthy snacks before going to bed. One of the reasons why I eat light snacks before going to bed is to prevent getting hungry at night. Personally, for me a rumbling stomach can prevent me from falling asleep sooner. Lastly, another favorable aspect would be that I try to add fruits and vegetables into each of my meals.
