In addition to the accurate representation of a typical student’s campus life, the novel explores the unfavorable facets of college that many youngsters experiences. The ultimate problem is that teenagers “just [want] more… independence” (Rowell 9). Being a teenager, I can relate to that statement, because personally I think that we do need more independence to aid with the transition from young-adults to adults. However, I also find that due to this independence, youngsters are introduced to many harmful and harsh realities, such as drugs and alcohol.
