For many people work provides them with a place to social network and it gives them self-esteem and the loss of both when unemployment hits, creates isolation which happens quickly. However, unemployment does not only affect the individual families it also affects the wider community in more ways than one. In Australia students, pensioners, low income earners, and even the unemployed are able to obtain income support from the government, but it is not always easy to obtain.
