1.1)
• 27,7% of the general population in South Africa is currently unemployed.
• 38.6% of the youth is currently unemployed in South Africa.
1.2 ) An example of a political factor that contributes to these unemployment statistics is bribery. It is where some wealthy individuals give money or gifts to a person in an institution or business to gain favor.

The right to strike which allows workers to challenge unfairness in the workplace, is important as it gives the workers a voice and empowers them to stand up to unfair or unjust treatment. This right protects the right of workers involved in a protected or legal strike as it allows for them to stay away from work in order to fight inequality in the work place. Under the Apartheid government where the black labour force was discriminated against and forced to accept unskilled jobs with very poor wages as well as poor living and working conditions, this right would have allowed them to down tools which would force business owners to make the necessary changes in order to bring back their workers. This right is necessary as it allows people with less power to have a say and fight against inequality in the work place.

a) The Mango pilot strike which took place on Monday, 16th October 2017 was where all members belonging to the trade union solidarity as well as flight captains went on strike due to a decrease in salary.

A negative impact of the strike might have resulted in Mango’s reputation being tarnished, as an Airline that is unreliable. The economy was affected as many of the big investors decided to withdraw due to the amount of money that was at risk.
d) In this case of the Mango pilot strike it is clear that ‘ legitimate strike action is a balancing act of human rights ‘.In early negotiations, the company was refusing to meet the demands of the pilots and flight captains. In order to have their basic human right of a fair living wage being met, the pilots and flight captains were forced to go on strike, after which a compromise was reached and the dispute
