Immigrants also invest in themselves through more training to gain additional experience and learn more about the local labor market. Also, newly acquired citizenship brings the opportunity for higher paying jobs, thus resulting in a greater income for the people, a large increase in tax revenue, and an enormous boost in the country’s GDP. Undocumented immigrants obtaining a citizenship would also drastically impact a country’s social state. Providing a pathway to citizenship to undocumented immigrants would encourage more immigration which could lead to a series of social issues throughout the country. An increase in immigration could potentially lead to overpopulation, thus affecting the standard of living in that area. For example, with the increase in the number of people, a city would become more congested and uncomfortable since the city is not meant to have such a large amount of people living there. An increase in pollution could also result from a larger amount of people living in one place. If there was an increase in the population, current citizens would be affected. Further research would have to be done to figure out just how much their lives would be affected and if it would present a significant problem. Another topic that would be worth researching would be how much would it cost to implement a fair pathway to citizenship? Governments would need to have certain background checks, people to help guide those looking to obtain a citizenship, people to approve citizenships, offices for immigrants to go to apply for a citizenship, and many other expenses. One would want to know how expensive this process would be and if the government of a country would be able to afford it. Also, one might want to research how the immigrants would integrate with their new societies. It is difficult for somebody to move to an entirely different environment than what he or she is accustomed
