Undocumented Immigrants Informative Speech

Why do you think many people believe that the American Dream is dead? It’s because of like these that encourage the same behavior that we have been trying to overcome since the beginning of the United States. Many people also don’t factor in one major part of this story, the kids. Many undocumented immigrants have kids living in the United States, and they suffer too, even if they aren’t undocumented immigrants. Families being separated is something that happens more often than you’d think, it even happened to my own family. Imagine living with one parent. That parent will have to work harder, and you would have to figure things out on your own without them, it’s possible, was only 4 when my father got deported. Now imagine if both parents …show more content…
No family, no one for you to lean on. Now imagine that both parents are undocumented immigrants and you were having a nice meal at the kitchen table. All of the sudden, officers’ break down your door and swarm it, guns out and they’re screaming, telling you to get on the floor. These officers are the ICE (U.S Immigration Customs and Enforcement) and they take your parents away, what do you do then? ICE raids are not uncommon; I personally know people who have gone through these kinds of raids. The parents never did anything wrong, they themselves looking and seeking the American Dream but get punished instead of helped. It’s weird to know that the first Americans were immigrants from England and they were seeking freedom, yet new immigrants no matter what era wither it’s the Irish, Germans, Japanese, or now with the Central-Americans always go through this period of hatred towards them even though most are searching for the same freedom as the first …show more content…
And even when undocumented immigrants are able to attend these universities through hard work and overcoming obstacles, there are still people who oppose it. Some people in this country are unwelcoming of undocumented immigrants, and believe they should go back to whatever country they came from. Using reasons like, “because they cause violence”, “because they use our jobs and resources”, and “because they don’t bother becoming an American.” An investigation done by the American Immigration Council found that undocumented immigrants are five times less likely to end up in prisons versus native-born Americans and most of the undocumented immigrants that are in prison is because immigration violations, not for anything else. Not only that but a report done by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) also found that crime rates have dropped 45% since 1990, making that argument invalid. Another argument that many people use is that undocumented immigrants “steal our jobs and resources” although many use this as an argument, it is simply not true. A study done by Teaching Tolerance and the Immigration Policy Center found that there is little evidence to prove the connection between immigrant labor and

Since the DREAM Act does not provide funding to states and counties to cover imposing costs, the act’s passage will require tuition increases, tax increases to expand enrollment, or a reduction in spaces available for American citizens at these schools (Camarota). About half a million new alien students are estimated to enroll in public institutions soon after the DREAM Act is passed, with another half million enrolling over the next decade and a half (Camarota). The United States would be rewarding undocumented immigrants and be taking education spots away from well-deserving American students, making it more difficult for them to obtain financial aid and or scholarships. Steven Camarota adds in his article "Estimating the Impact of the DREAM Act" that tuition hikes will be difficult for students because many Americans already find it difficult to pay for college, as research indicates that one-third of college students drop out before earning a degree and costs are a major reason for that dropout rate. Lawmakers need to consider that the DREAM Act will create strains and negatively affect the educational opportunities available to American citizens by adding roughly one million students to state universities and community colleges (Camarota).…

I cannot even begin to describe the struggles that we went through as immigrants, in a strange country, with a different language and culture. Throughout my essay, I’m going to be referring back to the articles to explain the changes that children of immigrants go through and how this is affecting the relationships between the parents and the child. In Giovanni Batz article it demonstrates that the country of Guatemala is not a great place to live a life due to their political violence and poverty. This is the main reasons why tons of Guatemalans come to America in the first place. The majority of the Guatemalans think, coming to the U.S and starting all over will give their children the opportunity to live a better life. This idea is somewhat accurate; however, there are some issues that immigrant children have to face when coming to the United States.…

Illegal Immigrants Should be Provided a Pathway to Citizenship The American dream can defined as the idea that all American citizens have a chance for great success and happiness in life. To many, America is viewed as a place where opportunity is around every corner.
