In this article Kohli mentions a report that is put out by the UndocuScholars Project, which is backed by UCLA, regarding undocumented students, and argues, “high-achieving young people are students whose talents are worth nurturing”. For the article Kohli had interviewed Robert Teranishi, a professor at UCLA, who says, “We’re finding that students are majoring in fields that are of great need to the nation”. What they have found are the undocumented students are majoring in science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) fields, and these are all areas that are experiencing a shortage of qualified candidates in the US (Kohli 2015). Based on the information that I have analyzed and reviewed, I feel that the two are related. With the education these undocumented students are receiving is placing them in a high category for high-end positions that the US appears to be lacking in qualified candidates. Additionally, I have found that they are not getting a free education. The taxes that these undocumented workers are paying help contribute to the education system and the students are backing their education by their own funding. With these students choosing to stay in the US, they are feeding our economy and helping it grow. There may be Americans that feel that undocumented immigrants attack our sovereignty, but they really need to think about whether they truly want these positions that these undocumented workers are occupying. Businesses are willing to hire these undocumented workers, because they know they can hire them at a lower wage than what the Americans want. Plus, the living conditions are unbearable for anyone to have to deal with. Americans may feel that the undocumented immigrants that migrate to our country are harming us, but they are here helping us not hurt
